To avoid performance issues, license lockouts, or stuck sessions, always log off properly when you're done working on a remote server.

🧭 Applies To:

  • Remote Desktop (RDP)

  • Any shared Windows server-based desktop

βœ… Correct Way to Log Out

  1. Click the Start Menu
(Bottom-left or top-left of your session window)

  2. Select Your Profile Icon

  3. Click "Sign out"

❌ Do NOT:

  • Close the window or click the X in the top corner

This only disconnects your session β€” it does NOT log you out.

  • Shut down or restart the server

If you're in a shared environment, this affects everyone using it.

πŸ”„ Why Logging Off Matters

  • πŸ’Ύ Frees up system resources (CPU, RAM, licensing)

  • πŸ” Ensures security of your session/data

  • ⏳ Avoids reconnect delays or session lockouts

  • πŸ›  Prevents application/database conflicts in shared environments
