Audience: Anyone who needs remote help from IT.
Purpose: Walk you through how to install, start, and use TeamViewer in simple steps.
What is TeamViewer?
TeamViewer is a safe tool that lets IT support connect to your computer (with your permission) to fix issues or help you. You can see everything they do and can stop the session at any time.
Before You Begin
Make sure you are connected to the internet.
You’ll need to download TeamViewer (IT may send you a link).
Install or Run TeamViewer
Go to the official TeamViewer download page (or use the link IT gives you).
If you only need one-time help, download TeamViewer QuickSupport (no install needed).
If you’ll use it often, download the full TeamViewer app.
Open the file. QuickSupport just runs — the full app may ask you to install.
If a pop-up asks to allow changes, click Yes.
Share Your ID and Password
Open TeamViewer (QuickSupport or the full app).
You’ll see a box with Your ID and a temporary Password.
Share these only with your IT technician.
Accept Remote Help
After you share your ID and password, IT will request access.
A message will appear asking if you want to allow control.
Click Allow or Accept.
You will see everything IT does on your screen.
To end the session at any time, click X or Disconnect.
Sending Files
IT may send or request files during the session.
You can also drag and drop files into the TeamViewer window if allowed.
Joining a Meeting
Open TeamViewer or click the meeting link IT gives you.
Click Join Meeting and type in the meeting ID if asked.
Choose if you want to share your screen, sound, or webcam.
Stay Safe
Only share your TeamViewer ID/password with trusted IT staff.
Close TeamViewer when you don’t need it.
Don’t allow anyone you don’t know to connect.
