🔄 How to Perform System Updates on Lenovo Laptops

Applies to: Lenovo ThinkPad, IdeaPad, Yoga, Legion, and other Windows-based Lenovo laptops
Purpose: To keep the system secure, stable, and compatible by updating drivers, BIOS, and Lenovo software.

✅ Recommended Method: Lenovo Commercial Vantage or Lenovo Vantage

Lenovo provides tools for updates:

  • Lenovo Commercial Vantage – for enterprise/business laptops (e.g., ThinkPads).

📥 Step 1: Install Lenovo Vantage (if not already installed)

  • Open the Microsoft Store.

  • Search for Lenovo Vantage.

  • Click Get or Install.

On managed or corporate devices, Commercial Vantage may already be installed by IT.

🔄 Step 2: Check for System Updates

  1. Launch Lenovo Vantage from the Start menu.

  2. Navigate to the Device or System Update tab.

  3. Click Check for Updates.

  4. Wait for Vantage to scan the system.

  5. If updates are found, click Install All.

    Updates may include:

    • BIOS

    • Firmware (Thunderbolt, Dock)

    • Chipset/Device Drivers

    • Lenovo utilities (Hotkeys, Power Manager, etc.)

  6. Restart your device when prompted to complete installation.

🛠️ Alternative Method: Use Lenovo System Update (Standalone)

  1. Download Lenovo System Update Tool:
    https://support.lenovo.com/systemupdate

  2. Install and open the application.

  3. Click Next through the wizard.

  4. Select Scan for Updates.

  5. Select recommended updates and install.

💡 BIOS & Firmware Updates Notes:

  • BIOS updates often require a reboot.

  • Make sure the laptop is plugged into power before starting.

  • Do not interrupt BIOS updates — doing so may brick the system.

📌 Best Practices:

  • Run Lenovo Vantage or System Update at least once a month.

  • After major Windows updates, check Lenovo updates again for driver compatibility.

  • Always update BIOS only when required or fixing known issues.
